October!!

October is here! Breast Cancer Awareness Month! I will be posting a couple of links for Breast Cancer sites! I am a member of a lot of them! The first thing I need to tell you is that I dyed my hair Pink!!
What do you think??

I never thought I would hear the word Cancer!! It is such a scary word! It certainly takes time to process. I was diagnosed in May of 2007 and I think I am just now starting to process it. I am choosing this blog as my platform as I begin that journey. In 2005 I thought I would be processing a heart attack, or in 2006 open heart surgery. But this processing pink seems to be the hardest! My cancer, invasive lobular carcinoma, left me with a lot of physical and emotional scars. Only some of them are known to me right now. Who knows what will come as I talk out things, and adapt!

Just a note to everyone....8 months before I was told it was cancer I went to a surgeon about a large lump in my right breast. I was told that it was nothing to worry about. It was normal breast tissue! 8 months later I was starting chemo to reduce the size of an 8.4 cm tumor before they removed my breast so that they could "get it all". They also took the left breast because it was so large and said to be stage IV and very invasive. They also removed 12 lymph nodes from my right chest and arm. They 12th one out was cancer free. This tumor was not found in a mammogram! Ladies, go with your gut!! If you do not fell right about a diagnosis (for anything...heart included) get a second opinion!

I will climb down off my soap box now!

Ribbons!

I wanna talk about Tony Orlando and Dawn. They started it! They tied that first yellow ribbon around the old oak tree. Now there are so many colors with several different meanings that I had to look them up!

This one is my main one, hence all the pink.
Pink Ribbon :
Meaning: Most commonly associated with breast cancer awareness, this ribbon is also a symbol for birth parents, and childhood cancer awareness (alternative color: light blue).

I thought this one was mostly for heart disease, but I guess that is the red dress and wear red for women.
Red Ribbon :
Meaning: Most commonly associated with the fight against AIDS and HIV, this ribbon also is a symbol for heart disease, stroke, substance abuse, MADD, DARE, Epidermolysis Bullosa, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.

This one has a lot more meanings than I thought!
Yellow Ribbon :
Meaning: We've all seen this symbol used to support our troops, but it is also a symbol for MIA/POW, suicide prevention, adoptive parents, amber alerts, bladder cancer, spina bifida, endometriosis, and a general symbol for hope. A yellow ribbon with a heart is used to represent the survivors left behind after a suicide.

Also more than I thought.
Purple Ribbon :
Meaning: This color is a symbol of pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid cancer, domestic violence, ADD, alzheimer's, religious tolerance, animal abuse, the victims of 9/11 including the police and firefighters, Crohn's disease and colitis, cystic fibrosis, lupus, leimyosarcoma, and fibromyalgia.

This one I knew because my daughter has PCOS.
Teal Ribbon :
Meaning: This color is a symbol for ovarian, cervical, and uterine cancers as well as sexual assault, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and tsunami victims.

This is the one that makes me proud!!
Flag Ribbon:
Meaning: This style of ribbon is a symbol for both the victims and heros of the 9/11 attacks. It is also a symbol of patriotism and support of our troops. In addition, it is a symbol of fireworks safety.

The rest I have either never heard of or forgot that I did!
Rainbow Ribbon:
Meaning: This style of ribbon is a symbol of gay pride and support for the GLBT community and their quest for equal rights.

Pink and Blue Ribbon:
Meaning: This style of ribbon is a symbol for miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death due to SIDS or other causes.

Lace Ribbon:
Meaning: This style of ribbon is a symbol for osteoporosis.

Jigsaw Puzzle Ribbon:
Meaning: This style of ribbon is a symbol for autism.

Grey Ribbon :
Meaning: This color is a symbol of diabetes, asthma, and brain cancer.

Brown Ribbon :

My first post!!

For those of you who know me, understand all the pink! For those who don't know me, you soon will!! I am an adapter! I can adapt myself, my environment, the environment of others, and the way you will view things from now on! The other day I broke a plate. I did not think "now I have to throw it away". I thought "wow what can I do with these pieces??". I adapt!
It seems to me that I have been picking up the pieces for a long time. I hope to post every time I look at a piece of something, and just know what, or where, or when it is supposed to be! I also hope to clear away any pieces that just don't belong in my life! If you were to ask Jeff, my husband for those getting to know me, he would say I have a lot of "pieces" that don't belong in my life. Or should I say our home!
Because I am an adapter I have so many things that are waiting to find out what they are supposed to be. You should see my craft room! Right now I am working on a kitchen table that wanted to be a coffee table. Not just any coffee table, but a really cool coffee table. I will be posting before, during and after pictures! At the same time I am working on my Mia's birthday party and our 2nd annual Octoberfest. Mia is turning 2, and she is a big fan of Olivia*, so we are turning our backyard red and white, Olivia's* favorite colors! Also have to work out all the food and the table scape! Also working on framing some old time photos we had taken on our trip to Glacier, after I turn them black and white, because they won't go in the black, white and gray living room as is. I am adapting them! I also have a basket sitting here literally 2 feet from me that should have been finished months ago and shipped!! Sorry Lori!! And I have a scrapbook started from our trip to Disney in 2010, and one that is 90% done from Andrew and Ambers wedding (my oldest son and daughter-in-law), they got married in 2005! See what I mean, lots of pieces!
Ok, that is enough rambling for tonight! Maybe this will make it easier to do all that needs to be done, awww who am I kidding!! This is my life, gotta love it!
